I don’t want to post every single doll I’ve been making these past weeks because this blog will turn into a “doll blog”. But every now and then I will show you one.
There are many times in which my dolls don’t turn out as I want, after all each one of them is a test, an experimentation, and even though Feven usually likes them all, no matter how ugly, many don’t deserve the attention.
Anyway, I tried for the first time a miniature felt doll with Ethiopian flavor, and I loved it! I think I will improve my technique and the look and eventually sell these dolls. I don’t know if it is the size that makes her so cute, but it’s hard to resist the temptation of holding her in your hand .
I have only made a first girl doll, but I want to try different characters, like a boy, a man, an angel, an Ethiopian family, etc.
The one I’ve just finished fits in the palm of your hand and is only 3 1/2 inches tall (9 cm). It’s made with brown felt fabric for the body, arms and legs, white felt for the dress, and wrapped around in an Ethiopian netela made with gauze fabric (I don’t have the real thing).
Of course I sowed her all by hand with embroidery floss. It’s quite a delicate job!
Here is the photo of the doll in my hands so you can see how tiny she is…
Sometimes when I’m working on a doll, I start to feel her personality developing, as if she herself takes control and guides me on how she wants to be finished.
It was a real pleasure to make this doll.

Alicia, you are so so talented. I think it’s just gorgeous and the idea you have of transforming it into an angel or boy doll is great, my son would love one to hang onto his school knapsack (in Italy kids have a gazillion stuffed animal key holders attached to their schoolbags). Can’t wait for your Etsy shop to open!
Simplemente preciosa. Yo también estoy deseando que se abra tu tienda. Un abrazo, Verónica.
Anna, We’re in Italy too! I’d love to have an Ethiopian doll family for my Ethiopian daughter. A mommy, daddy, big brother and little baby doll to represent her Ethiopian family. Can I pre-order?? Jenny
I’m still working on the different characters, and when I have something available I will post about it. Unfortunately my time is quite limited right now
