This post is brought to you by the letter:
The eighth symbol of the Amharic alphabet is called Š and it sounds like "sh", as in the word "she". The printed letter and its handwritten version look the similar and is as if we add a short vertical line on the top of the letter .
Here is the table with the printed letter, handwritten letter and pronunciation, and a few examples. The animations were made according to the instructions in the book Writing and Reading Amharic and the sounds are form the site Amharic Online. Phonetic according to David Appleyard.

Potr si algunos de los ‘alumnos’ les sirve de orientación, el sonido del símbolo de hoy es equivalente a la X del gallego.
Un saludo.
Thanks so much for posting these lessons. They are great! My family and I are using them for the same reason as you. We are in the adoption process too. This is a great site. Please keep it up.
The other thing we are doing is getting into Ethiopian style cooking. Are you doing any of that?
Hola L&C!
Gracias por la informacion acerca de la pronunciacion, lo voy a agregar al post ya mismo!

Hi Matt,
Thank you for your support!
I haven’t try any Ethiopian cooking yet, but one thing I’m sure I will try is to make some injera. I don’t know where to find the main ingredient, teff, here in Portland, though.

En la web, cómo no, tienen un enlace a Road to Ethiopia.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for the link!
I also found out that there is a local store that sells teff, New Seasons, so I guess I have to start looking for recipes…
Maybe Whole Foods sells it too, but I haven’t checked yet.
