Last weekend after a long time without being able to watch a movie, we finally watched two! Yes, two movies! A big accomplishment in these busy times.
The two movies we watched are documentaries about Africa.
The first one is called Soldier Child and even when it was filmed in the year 1998, the subject it talks about is still present.
Unfortunately, not many things have changed in this world and these kind of conflicts keep repeating all the time someplace in the planet.
In the case of this documentary, it talks about an organization that rehabilitates children ex-soldiers from the north of Uganda.
These children were kidnapped by the Lord’s Resistance Army, abused and forced to fight a war and to commit all kind of atrocities.
I talked about it in a previous post when reviewing another picture, War Dance that approaches the subject from the point of view of a group of children preparing to compete in a festival of traditional dances.
In the case of Soldier Child, the movie was filmed in GUSCO Camp (Gulu Support the Children Organization) an NGO dedicated to help all these children ex-soldiers providing them with psychological support and education so they can overcome their trauma and go back to live with their families and be part of the society.

un amigo mio de la época colaboraba en GUSCO camp,de hecho me invitó a visitar el centro pero nunca pude hacerlo. Tampoco sé si me hubiera gustado. Demasiadas pérdidas las de estos niños y demasiado duro enfrentarse a sus miradas tristes y vacías.
Creo que hoy mismo o mañana se celebra el dia del niño soldado para recordarnos la crueldad de su situación.
un abrazo
