James' Journey to Jerusalem“Let’s sing of that tale that begins in a faraway village,
The best young man was sent on a pilgrimage
A long journey to Zion where the heart of the world is
To the Promised land beyond the seas
Zion’s light in his heart to guide his way

It will keep him safe and won’t lead him astray
Soon he will see that holy city
See it with his own eyes
He’ll come back and tell us
About the place where our dream lies Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Jerusalem,
You are our destiny.”

(from James’ Journey to Jerusalem)

James' Journey to JerusalemEven when this movie technically speaking isn’t about Africa, or wasn’t filmed in Africa, I wanted to talk about it anyway because in a certain way it is related and besides I liked it very much.
It is a story about a young African boy named James that before becoming a priest in his small village in Africa, makes a trip as a sort of pilgrimage to the Holy city of Jerusalem.
The story starts when James comes to Tel Aviv and he’s detained by Israeli immigration officials.
Jerusalem turns out to be nothing of what he expected and this movie is in a way a becoming of age story.
It speaks about exploitation, discrimination, searching for a better life by millions of immigrants, greed, loneliness, but also transformation and hope.
The movie language is mainly Hebrew, with some English and Zulu and with some surprises in the dialogues for the Argentinean audience.
The music of the film is very beautiful and main theme was written by Ra’anan Alexandrowicz.
James’ Journey to Jerusalem deserves to be watched since in addition to all of the above it is a very entertaining movie.
